This role presents a unique opportunity to engage in a broad spectrum of both contentious and non-contentious work, with a notable increase in contentious matters.
Candidates with experience in UK adjudications and Technology and Construction Court Litigation are particularly encouraged to apply.

- Engaging in dispute advisory services, including alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation.
- Addressing a variety of issues, including final account and delay claims, quality of construction claims, construction insolvency, bond claims, ACM cladding, fire safety defect claims, professional indemnity, and other insurance-related matters.
- Providing guidance to government entities, sponsors, funders, developers, employers, operators, constructors, subcontractors, and professional teams on strategies for dispute avoidance and resolution, as well as project procurement methods, including facilities management.
- Fostering strong relationships with current clients, serving as a reliable advisor who delivers timely, high-quality counsel while effectively managing expectations.
- Collaborating as a unified team to handle large-scale, high-value client projects with the utmost excellence.
- Assisting in the drafting, negotiation, and advisory processes related to construction contracts, consultant appointments, collateral warranties, financial securities (such as bonds and guarantees), letters of intent, and reliance letters.
- Contributing to the collective knowledge, marketing efforts, and know-how initiatives of the group.
- Adhering to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements, including the standards and regulations set forth by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
Person Specification

Company
Clifton Legal is the legal division of Clifton Search - a specialist search and selection recruitment firm. We are a niche, boutique firm and focus purely on the legal and corporate governance markets. Our primary focus is on opportunities from newly qualified to General Counsel level.
We set up Clifton in 2014 to fulfil what we believed was a gap in the market to provide clients and candidates in our core markets with the knowledge and connections of a specialist and experienced recruitment partner allied to a pro-active and integrated approach. In essence we bring the professionalism and targeted networking approach of a search solution but with a functional rather than sector driven model. We augment this with the personal touch, flexibility and proactive rate of response of a traditional contingent recruitment service.
The leadership team has c50 years of recruitment experience and as experienced recruiters with a proven track record, we have a deep knowledge and understanding of our markets, a large network of legal and governance professionals and a genuine passion for delivering a professional, honest and quality service to all stakeholders within the recruitment process.
We are rigorous in ensuring that we have a thorough understanding of both candidate and client requirements at the outset to ensure the delivery of a well-matched service and a successful campaign for both parties.
Our long-standing client base is comprised of large UK, US and European listed multinationals and corporate businesses and spans a wide range of sectors. We operate out of offices in Bristol and London but recruit right across the UK, Europe and the US.
Why work with us?
Unlike most recruitment companies we don’t operate with the typical “sales” driven culture that’s common in our sector. This gives us greater independence and objectivity and allows us to focus purely on your agenda and career aspirations and find the right opportunity for you – even if you are not “actively looking” in the market.
Whether you or keen to secure a new opportunity right now or simply keeping an eye on the market for that perfect opportunity, we commit to offer you:
- Honest, impartial and specialist market advice/intelligence from recruiters with extensive experience.
- CV appraisal and preparation guidance.
- Full, in-depth application support throughout the recruitment process from initial approach, interview preparation and feedback, salary negotiation, resignation management – right up to starting your new opportunity.
- Up to the minute and specific salary and benefits benchmarking relative to your experience, sector and location.
- Long term career planning and professional development advice.
- Complete confidentiality and a guarantee that we will never share your CV with any third party without your express knowledge and consent.
