Family Partner | Top 50 Firm | Bristol

The Firm:

This prestigious Top 50 law firm, with a heritage spanning over 160 years, is expanding its full-service presence in Bristol. Since opening a 'hub' in the Southwest in early 2021, the firm has grown significantly and is now firmly established in the region. As part of this exciting growth, we are looking for a Family Partner (or ambitious Legal Director) to help build and lead the family team in Bristol, contributing to the firm's continued success.

The firm is known for its expertise in key practice areas such as Agriculture & Rural Affairs, Private Wealth, Corporate/M&A, Employment, Environment, Litigation, Planning, Real Estate, Restructuring & Insolvency, and

Family/Matrimonial law. With a commitment to sustainable business practices and community impact, the firm places significant importance on diversity and inclusion, with female partners making up 40% of the partnership.
Ranked highly in the Best UK Law Firm to Work For 2024 and securing eight Future Lawyers Awards this year, the firm is celebrated for both its legal excellence and commitment to employee well-being. This includes a supportive approach to maternity leave and significant family support, alongside a collegiate and inclusive workplace culture.

The firm has recently surpassed £100 million in revenue for the fifth consecutive year, reflecting its strong growth trajectory.

The Role:

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the firm's highly regarded Family team, which is ranked Tier 1 in both Chambers and Legal 500. Specialising in Divorce, Financial Provision, Children Act matters, pre/post-nuptial agreements, and wealth protection, the department works with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, both domestically and internationally.

The Bristol office presents a unique chance for you to shape and develop the firm's family law offering in the region, working closely with current partners to establish and grow the team. You will have the opportunity to mentor junior lawyers, contribute to business development, and enhance the firm's presence in the local and national market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Management & Development: Build and maintain strong relationships with high-net-worth clients, providing tailored legal advice and ensuring the highest standards of service. Identify opportunities for expanding client relationships and cross-selling additional services.
  • Legal Expertise & Advice: Provide expert legal guidance on complex family matters, including Divorce, Children Act issues, pre/post-nuptial agreements, and wealth protection. Stay up-to-date on legal developments and trends in the family law sector.
  • Team Leadership & Management: Lead, build, and mentor a team of junior lawyers, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Provide guidance and training to ensure continuous professional development.
  • Business Development & Strategy: Contribute to the firm's strategic goals, represent the firm at networking events, conferences, and business development activities. Lead efforts to establish and grow the firm's presence in the Bristol market, leveraging local networks and industry contacts.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and professional standards. Manage risks associated with client engagements and maintain accurate client records.

The Candidate:

  • PQE: 8 years+ (ideally 10 years+ PQE)
  • Experience: Proven track record of advising high-net-worth clients across all areas of family law. Previous experience in business development and establishing a presence in new markets is essential.
  • Skills & Competencies: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and leadership experience. High attention to detail and a proactive, results-oriented approach to work.
  • Personal Attributes: Client-focused, adaptable, resilient, and entrepreneurial. Passionate about growing the firm's presence in Bristol and building a strong team.

The Benefits:

  • Work with a leading UK Top 50 firm that prioritises professional development and has a strong commitment to diversity, sustainability, and community impact.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, along with access to high-quality resources, technical training, and mentorship from experienced partners.
