Commercial / TMT Associate - 1 PQE+, Thames Valley

A leading firm with a Chambers-rated commercial team are now seeking an ambitious Commercial Associate (1 PQE+) to join their top-tier practice based in the Thames Valley.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a highly professional and dynamic group currently consisting of Chambers-rated Partners & Associates, advising and assisting on a wide variety of high quality commercial projects. 

A position has arisen for an experienced lawyer to join this busy Corporate and Commercial team (ranked at Band 1 in Chambers and Partners), handling a mixed caseload of corporate and commercial matters. The ideal candidate would be somebody bright and hardworking, with excellent technical ability, a good communicator with plenty of initiative. You will have direct exposure to a wide variety of clients, including serial entrepreneurs, owner managed businesses, mid-tier corporates and overseas business with a UK presence.

Clients include global and international companies with regional headquarters based in the UK or mainland Europe; mid-market UK companies and fast-growing and entrepreneurial businesses. Many of their clients are in the technology, media, retail and hospitality & leisure sectors.

The team provide legal services to the UK/EMEA operating entities of US-owned companies and act as external, and often sole, legal counsel providing day-to-day advice on commercial contractual matters and data protection.

You can expect to advise on a diverse range of commercial contracts including matters related to Fintech, franchising, IP, manufacturing and data protection.  You will be involved in drafting and negotiating contracts of various sizes and values and will be encouraged to act as an extension of the firms clients' in-house legal teams. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly ranked leading IP, IT and Commercial team with a stellar roster of technology clients. The team’s practice covers a broad spread of commercial, data protection, IT and IP work, including all types of commercial contracts, both B2B and B2C; collaboration agreements; e-commerce documents; IP licences; software contracts; advisory work especially regarding GDPR compliance.

The ideal individual will be comfortable drafting and negotiating contracts; carrying out legal research and due diligence; guiding clients through commercial challenges; and, developing client relationships.

All members of the team advise on IT contracts, as well as dedicating a significant proportion of their time to commercial law advice and data protection/cyber security matters. There is a particular sector focus on tech businesses, insurance/financial services and life sciences.

The successful individual can expect to get involved in a fantastic range of work, with an impressive client list that includes well-known brands, multinationals, FTSE 100 corporates as well as owner managed businesses and entrepreneurs. The team (and the wider firm) has a significant focus on international work and much of what they do has a cross border dimension.

The ideal individual will be a strong team player with solid inter-personal skills, good academics and high quality experience – typically with a major City or leading national/regional practice – who have a commercial approach and excellent technical, communication and negotiation skills.
