Job Details

We are looking for an experienced and pragmatic construction lawyer to lead on our claims strategy and on a varied workload of claims and dispute resolution matters.  As part of a team of c.40 Legal Counsel specialising in procurement, construction and property advice, you will work closely with colleagues on complex property and construction transactions.

You will be the subject matter expert for contentious matters within the team and will also use your dispute resolution experience to advise on wider Education Estates issues.

Using your experience of working on large-scale construction projects, you will provide in-house legal and commercial input across a large portfolio of education construction projects. This will involve working with internal project teams and other specialist advisors.  You will also work closely with external technical and legal advisors where necessary to lead on claims management and dispute resolution matters.

Each centrally-delivered capital project is allocated a Legal Counsel (Construction) and Legal Counsel (Real Estate). You will work in concert with these Legal Counsel to ensure claims and disputes are dealt with effectively and efficiently.  Where claims are escalated, you will work with wider Education Estates colleagues and senior representatives to help reach resolution.  Alongside this you will provide expert advice and recommendations to DfE colleagues across all capital programmes.

The role would suit a contentious construction lawyer with broad claims management and dispute resolution experience.

Salary level is set at £65,355 (pay award pending).  For exceptional candidates an additional non-pensionable £10,000 market supplement allowance may be available.
