Employment Lawyer

Grade: 7

Salary: £53,400 – £62,000

Business Area: Legal Services

Working Pattern: Part-Time, Compressed Hours

Security Clearance level required: Standard DBS Vetting

Location: Work can be done remotely, but the post holder will have a contracted base of Liverpool or Darlington. Travel between DBS sites will be required. Team meetings take place on a monthly basis in Darlington. Travel to courts and tribunals will also be required and overnight stays are possible.

Job Purpose:

The post holder will partner with the existing DBS Employment Lawyer, under the management of the Associate Director for Legal Services, to provide quality and timely legal advice and support to internal DBS clients, building relationships whilst providing a valuable service to the business.

You will join a high performing and supportive team of 22, including 12 solicitors, from various specialisms. You will work collaboratively and proactively with colleagues in the team and the wider business supporting individual decision making, wider policy decisions and strategic business projects, building relationships and confidence in Legal Services.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified to practice as a Solicitor or Barrister in England and Wales with at least 5 years PQE
  • Experienced Employment Lawyer who has advised at pace at all levels within organisations
  • Experience of advising in relation to ET claims
  • Experience of advising a public body
  • Willingness to embrace other complementary areas of law e.g., public law, equality, health and safety and information law

    Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced in-house legal team
  • Experience of working with a unionised workforce
  • Experience of managing instructions to external law firms and/or counsel
