Job Details

A rare and very appealing PSL vacancy has arisen in the dispute resolution practice of this leading global offshore firm's Cayman office. The role will involve working alongside the existing global PSL team to ensure that a consistent level of quality support is offered to the Cayman and BVI dispute resolution teams globally. You will report to the global head of professional support and will work closely with the global heads of the dispute resolution practice and relevant partners. The relevant partner teams are strongly engaged with the knowledge teams and each global group includes a partner who is a knowledge champion.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced PSL and possess highly relevant experience in complex international commercial litigation, insolvency and/or restructuring from a recognised leading law firm in a major onshore or offshore jurisdiction. Current experience of knowledge management technology and document automation systems would be an advantage. You will demonstrate enthusiasm for developing knowledge systems, improving access and understanding amongst the team, and be responsive to the needs of fee-earners.

Primary responsibilities will include: reviewing, drafting and maintaining precedents, legal guides and practice notes; researching, monitoring, analysing and informing the dispute resolution practice of legal and industry developments and trends, articulating how they will affect the practice and its clients; drafting and coordinating current awareness updates, client alerts and other publications; developing, organising and maintaining an effective system for the collection of knowledge resources, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that a comprehensive set of first-class materials is accessible to all lawyers; coordinating internal and external training sessions and speakers on relevant legal and regulatory matters. This might include preparing and delivering training, where appropriate; responding to queries from lawyers and track queries to identify knowhow and training needs; actively contribute to a culture of valuing and leveraging knowledge; producing high quality and complex research.

Winchester Search is a boutique independent search and selection firm serving the offshore, Asian, Australian and London markets. Simon Scott, head of our offshore practice, has specialised in recruiting lawyers for offshore law firms since 2009 including working in Grand Cayman for four and a half years during this period. He is a Cambridge University graduate who initially practised as an employment lawyer before switching to legal recruitment in 1996. With over a decade's experience of the offshore market behind him, he has forged strong relationships with managing partners, heads of department and senior HR personnel at all the major offshore firms.

There are several compelling reasons why a significant number of lawyers from the world’s leading international law firms across the globe decide every year to make a combined career and lifestyle move to Cayman, BVI and Bermuda:

Remuneration

Due to the low tax rates you can earn more than at Magic or Silver Circle firms in London whilst working more predictable hours, still being able to undertake interesting, high-value work on behalf of major blue-chip clients, and having greater client contact and opportunity for travel and business development.

Quality of life

(i) superb climate (average daily high temperatures range from 29C - 33C in Grand Cayman, 28C – 31C in BVI, and 20C – 30C in Bermuda)

(ii)  relaxed nature of island life and being able to live beach-side or in close proximity to the ocean with minimal air pollution

(iii) the climate lends itself to a more healthy lifestyle and participating in the various sports and outdoor activities available

(iv) short commute to work

Ease of transition

English is the main language and there is a large, friendly and cosmopolitan expat community (circa 50% of the population are expats drawn from every corner of the globe) which makes settling into island life much easier. In addition, no exams are necessary to get admitted and there are direct flights to London and various North American cities.

Please note that we are only able to respond to applicants who satisfy the criteria set out in the job spec above and whom we believe will be of interest to our clients.
