Senior Employment Lawyer (Head of Department ) - Leading Offshore Firm, Jersey

We are currently representing a prominent law firm in the Channel Islands, actively seeking a Senior Employment Lawyer to assume a leadership role within their Employment Team. This integral position involves providing expert legal counsel, particularly in the realms of litigation and financial services law. The ideal candidate will play a key role in driving business growth, cultivating client relationships, and contributing to the overarching strategic plans of the firm. The hire is envisaged to be at the Counsel or Partner level and offer significant opportunity for career development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In the realm of client work, responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating delegated tasks, managing risk exposure in accordance with firm policies, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality professional services. Additionally, the role involves supervising junior staff as necessary.
  • On the business development front, the successful candidate will actively contribute to the formulation of global employment law business plans. This includes identifying and supporting new ventures, cross-selling opportunities, and taking charge of non-chargeable activities to enhance the firm's external reputation.
  • From a financial/practice management perspective, you will be expected to achieve target hours, proactively manage billings, and demonstrate a nuanced understanding of key financial indicators. Identifying and implementing changes to enhance practice operations is also a key aspect of the role.


  • The ideal candidate will possess 7+ PQE, holding qualifications in Jersey, Guernsey, and/or the UK. Prior experience in a management capacity would be ideal.


  • Candidates should bring significant experience in employment law, preferably within Jersey or Guernsey.
  • Strong technical ability, delegation and supervisory skills, and business development acumen are essential. Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), the ability to remain focused under pressure, and strong organisational skills round out the desired profile.


  • The successful candidate will exhibit a client-focused approach, commercial awareness, and sound judgment.
  • Self-motivation, a solution-driven attitude, and the ability to instil confidence in colleagues are crucial.
