FTSE 100 energy business focused on renewable projects and playing a major part in helping towards net zero seeks a Data Protection Lawyer. Full or part-time considered.

 

Responsibilities:

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with data protection and privacy experience to provide strategic and pragmatic advice related to UK and EU data protection and privacy law, as well as supporting on high-profile projects with a data protection impact.

  • Keeping abreast of developing regulation in a fast-moving environment and identifying/addressing legal data privacy issues You’ll identify, build, and maintain key relationships, working closely with the wider DPO team and key stakeholders to drive forward Data Protection team objectives and ambitions  Supporting the Group Data Protection Officer in maintaining a data protection culture across the businesses and monitoring compliance with the internal protection control framework(s) including creating communications materials Advising and negotiating data protection and privacy in relation to clauses in commercial and IT contracts including SaaS, data processing and data sharing agreements where data is exported outside the EEA and UK. Supervising and advising on privacy assessments including transfer impact assessments and data protection impact assessments Supporting data incident response and data breach notification procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant requirements, leading contact with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) and preparing and delivering training at all levels of the company

 

 

We are looking for:

 

  • Qualified lawyer in the UK, EU or commonwealth country, 2 years + PQE* Knowledge of UK &/Or EU Data Protection legislation Trained with a well-regarded law firm or inhouse Experience of supporting on data incidents and breaches Experience of interacting with and building trusting relationships with key internal stakeholders, business partners and regulatory authorities Excellent communication skills, consistently providing a high level of service and a strong enthusiasm for communicating the impact and importance of data protection compliance Understanding of data protection compliance activities and how to support them and a drive to continually strengthen the data protection programme across the group Commercially curious and keen to be challenged Willingness to learn about and apply data protection laws in other jurisdictions It would be helpful to have an interest in IT and technological issues including those around future digitisation
