New! - a leading Legal 100 firm with a Chambers-rated commercial team are now seeking an ambitious Commercial Associate to join their top-tier practice.

The firm has a national network of offices and supports hybrid working so the location of this role is flexible.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a highly professional and dynamic group currently consisting of Chambers-rated Partners & Associates,  advising and assisting on a wide variety of high quality commercial projects.

You can expect to advise on a diverse range of commercial contracts including matters related to Fintech, franchising, IP, manufacturing and data protection.  You will be involved in drafting and negotiating contracts of various sizes and values and will be encouraged to act as an extension of the firms clients' in-house legal teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly ranked leading IP, IT and Commercial team with a stellar roster of technology clients. The team’s practice covers a broad spread of commercial, data protection, IT and IP work, including all types of commercial contracts, both B2B and B2C; collaboration agreements; e-commerce documents; IP licences; software contracts; advisory work especially regarding GDPR compliance.

This is a great opportunity for someone to come into a growing area of the business, and work closely with a Partner to develop and progress through the firm. This may suit an individual who is working in a commercial setting and looking to be part of a wider geographical agnostic team, and who can help support and strengthen key skills and expertise in the areas of technology, IP and data protection.

  • 3-6 years PQE (previous experience relevant to the role is essential)
  • Confident working independently on your own matters
  • Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and successfully manage client relationships.
  • Ability to develop new relationships
  • Have a demonstrable passion for the work you do and be willing to go the extra mile
  • Demonstrate teamwork and relationship building skills
  • Must strive to provide highest levels of service to clients
  • Ambitious and organised with a positive and enthusiastic attitude

You will support clients across a wide range of sectors on commercial, technology, IP and data protection matters. A broad client base includes established and fast growth technology businesses (operating in the SaaS, Cloud Services MedTech, BioTech, life sciences and manufacturing sectors). Your work will cover routine and complex commercial transactions, research and development activities, and strategic outsourcing/service-related projects.  You work will also involve technology, e-commerce and the internet, including advising on innovative technological solutions and data privacy matters. In addition to your general commercial and technology work, you will also advise clients on the existence, ownership, protection, development and exploitation of their IP rights.

The ideal individual will be comfortable drafting and negotiating contracts; carrying out legal research and due diligence; guiding clients through commercial challenges; and, developing client relationships.

All members of the team advise on IT contracts, as well as dedicating a significant proportion of their time to commercial law advice and data protection/cyber security matters. There is a particular sector focus on tech businesses, insurance/financial services and life sciences.

The successful individual can expect to get involved in a fantastic range of work, with an impressive client list that includes well-known brands, multinationals, FTSE 100 corporates as well as owner managed businesses and entrepreneurs. The team (and the wider firm) has a significant focus on international work and much of what they do has a cross border dimension.

The ideal individual will be a strong team player with solid inter-personal skills, good academics and high quality experience – typically with a major City or leading national/regional practice – who have a commercial approach and excellent technical, communication and negotiation skills.

The range of the work undertaken means the team can accommodate a variety of experiences and aspirations: you might be a technology lawyer looking to continue this type of work, a commercial lawyer who wishes to develop specialist legal or sector expertise, or a specialist regulatory lawyer looking to broaden your practice to a wider variety of sectors or work types.

The firm culture is friendly, collegiate and ranks consistently highly within employee engagement surveys.

An attractive financial package with excellent progression prospects on offer.
