Senior Legal Counsel, Lead IP and Strategic Projects for globally recognised brand

Arbuthnot Yon are working exclusively with a UK heritage brand which operates across the UK, Europe and Asia and is part of a global conglomerate. The business is going through an exciting period of change, growth and modernisation encompassing sustainable innovation, and R&D and technology projects that require support from the legal team.

Forming part of a UK based Legal team and reporting into the General Counsel, you will be responsible for leading on IP strategy and protection and strategic business projects.

Specifically, you will:

•  Lead on IP strategy globally in relation to existing and new IP as well as supporting with any IP disputes. The business has recently created a new Innovation and R&D hub and have exiting plans to develop their existing portfolio which you would be key in supporting Lead on Business projects which sit outside of BAU contractual work. This may include corporate restructures, property transactions, funding projects. There will be specialised external lawyers to support on these projects, so the focus is on leading the projects internally and leading on strategy, risk management and implementation. The final aspect of the role will involve mucking in with the team supporting the business with a range of ad-hoc legal work including commercial agreements, compliance, disputes etc. 

It is anticipated that, over the course of a year, your time will be equally split between IP and business project work with ad-hoc areas in addition to this.

We do not expect you to have experience across all areas, rather we are looking for an experienced commercial lawyer with good IP experience or an IP lawyer who has a growth mindset and is keen to expand their skill set and you will be able to operate at both a strategic and operational level.
