This well-known Newspaper is seeking an editorial lawyer to work in its highly regarded editorial legal team. Reporting into the head of department, responsibilities will be dealing predominantly with pre-publication issues, including libel, privacy, contempt, reporting restrictions. This role will also handle small complaints (not litigation). It is a full-time office-based job (not hybrid), working Mondays to Fridays, 9.30am to 5.30am.
The successful candidate will have relevant media law experience with a focus on pre-publication issues. This is a growth role in the team, and they are open to all levels of experience. You must have a strong interest in free speech issues, public interest, and investigative journalism. You will thrive under pressure and would enjoy working in a fast paced and demanding newsroom environment. You can analyse complex legal issues, develop strategies and argue points constructively and succinctly. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain and present problems/ issues to others and contribute to their resolution. You can instill trust and confidence among business colleagues and clients.
