Job Details
Our mission is to make gambling safer. We do that by licensing and regulating in the public interest and providing advice and guidance. We aim to balance consumer choice and the enjoyment gambling can bring against the risks gambling presents to some consumers and wider society.
It is not an easy balance. Changes in consumer behaviour and emerging technology create new risks and opportunities for regulation to keep pace with.
As General Counsel, you will lead our busy and well-respected legal team which has overall responsibility for the Commission’s legal work, including a full range of in-house legal services and provision of advice to the Commission and its senior leaders. You will be part of the Executive Team and Board.
You will also play a leading role in providing advice to the Commission on its powers, requiring creativity and innovation in advising on the options and finding available routes to help the Commission to be more effective. You will ensure that technology and processes are effective to enable pace and to drive continuous improvement. You will lead a culture of openness, accountability and collaboration by role modelling our Ways of Working.
This isn’t just a senior legal role – we are looking for an individual with the desire and capability to act as a cross-organisational leader. As part of the Executive Team, you will also support colleagues across the organisation. You will also be one of the Commission’s key representatives, representing the Commission at senior level stakeholder engagements and maintaining excellent working relationships with the Commission’s external solicitors and counsel.
A qualified lawyer and passionate leader, you will bring to bear your knowledge of working in a complex legal environment for the benefit of our organisation as a whole. Leadership experience, gained in a complex legal environment will help you inspire your team and act as a role model across the organisation.
This is an unique leadership opportunity at an exciting time for a dynamic and progressive organisation – for more information please contact Lottie Williams on 07814900058 or Andrew Timlin on 07887777735
The Gambling Commission is committed to promoting equal opportunities and we actively encourage applications from all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and disability.
