A leading and established provider of outsourced services, our client's client base includes leading companies in the banking and professional services, retail and leisure, manufacturing, construction, utilities, transport and logistics, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, industrial, and technology and communications sectors. It is also a strategic supplier to central and local governments, and other public sector customers.

Our client's office is in Manchester however the team do work flexibly on a hybrid working basis. For applicants outside the North West, there is scope to work from home and/or another company office.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established legal function in a senior and involved legal role.


Overview:

To support the Group and its essential services, an opportunity has arisen for a Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Counsel to join the Group. Reporting into the Group Legal Director, the successful candidate will works as part of a close knit legal team, responsible for identifying and delivering sound, pragmatic solutions to complex and rapidly changing situations.

The role will principally focus on commercial legal matters related to bids, tenders, contracts and renewals. The Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Counsel will negotiate high value outsourcing contracts with public and private sector clients, encompassing engineering and construction (NEC3, NEC4, JCT, FIDIC), maintenance, building management, energy services and other diverse offerings.

In addition to commercial and contractual matters, the Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Counsel will assume responsibility for the management of contractual issues, dispute resolution and matters that have the potential to go litigious. This could include pre-action correspondence, assessing and collating evidence, assessing risks and discussing strategy, taking the lead on legal decisions, instructing and managing third party legal advisors, and updating the business in relation to disputes and the risks they pose. Circa 40-50% could be contentious in flavour.

The Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Counsel will also help develop and roll out new policies and procedures, provide transactional support and risk management duties, and will help to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


About you:

This is a senior level role with a high degree of responsibility and involvement in key business transactions and decisions. It is envisaged that you will have circa 7+ years PQE however our client will consider applications from candidates outside this range, assuming suitable skills and knowledge.

Applicants with existing knowledge and experience of standard form construction contracts and/or public procurement experience are actively encouraged. Similarly, any existing experience dealing with energy services and Energy Performance Contracts is most welcome.


Working arrangements:

Our client operated a flexible and hybrid working policy and they are also open to part-time working - 4 days. An element of home working is also an option for those living outside the North West.

Our client has zero billable hours, they tend not to work weekends and evening work is relatively infrequent.
