This is an opportunity to join the in-house team of a major international law firm as a commercial lawyer - specifically within the procurement and contracts team. It's essentially the team responsible for contracting with the law firm's suppliers - who they spend an awful lot of money with. A commercial solicitor with 3+ PQE would be a good match for this job and team. Technology contracts experience would be ideal.
Why should you consider a law firm's in-house team when comparing this against other in-house opportunities? I can see a few benefits. The move from private practice to in-house could be slightly easier than usual - the firm around you is what you are used to, and the structure is there for you to develop during your career with them. External resources and funding for those resources is one of the key things that in-house lawyers come to us complaining (rightly) about - you need specialists from time to time - and you have the benefit of tier one pensions, tax, employment, corporate and property teams around you for support - just pick up the phone to them or walk into the office. There is also importantly no time recording or fee earning targets - it's more solutions/outcome driven. And your hours will be kinder (extremely rare to work an evening/weekend).
In-house teams moves are always about the personality of the team members, and most importantly often the head of the team - and having met the team head recently I was struck with how creative, interesting and bright he is - it is clear that he operates his team with more of an in-house style, i.e. a pretty flat structure and treating people as adults, while risk, speed and commerciality (not perfecting everything!) is key to their ethos.
This role can be based in Glasgow or Birmingham and can be done on a hybrid basis (usually two days in the office). Part time could also work for this job.
