In-House Construction Lawyer – Local Government.

Bristol City Council is a large and forward-thinking authority that regularly undertakes and substantial and innovative construction projects and is looking for a construction specialist able to lead on such matters.
Working in a small supportive team of in-house commercial lawyers, you will be an experienced construction lawyer wanting to join a dynamic legal function, with a substantial pipeline of projects for you to lead on and influence (e.g., commercial, large-scale residential, highways, energy works, upgrades, repairs and maintenance etc). The team advise a very wide variety of internal client teams within the Council, so excellent communication skills will be essential.
This role will see you involved in matters often from inception; advising on which form of contract should be used, drafting additions/amendments, warranties, bonds, PCGs etc. You will advise on legal risks particularly in relation to the procurement process. Fully involved in most projects, you will be the lawyer responsible for advising on tender support, from choosing the procurement route all the way through to contract award stage.
This position will suit an experienced and highly communicative Construction Lawyer or contentious Construction Lawyer seeking an in-house opportunity. You will need the confidence to work closely with senior management when needed and dealing with high profile and/or politically sensitive case work.
You will have
- Considerable experience of advising on and taking responsibility for the conduct of complex cases without supervision. A good working knowledge of the most popular standard forms of construction contracts, The ability to share knowledge and experience within the team The ability to work as a team player and build strong client relationships. Experience of resolving disputes prior to litigation and/or public procurement would be advantageous.
