Head of Legal

A Housing Association based in London is seeking a Head of Legal Services on an interim basis. The role is being offered on an initial six-month fixed term contract basis.

The successful candidate will have previous experience working as a Head of Legal Services, and you will have extensive knowledge of the relevant law across some of the following areas: charity, housing, debt recovery and commercial property.

The position will involve managing 4 direct reports and in total up to 14 indirect reports.

The role:

• You will lead the provision of legal services for the organisation and deliver an outstanding inhouse and external legal service.
• You will have responsibility for all external legal spend across the organisation. Budget management experience is essential.  
• You will be responsible for advising on issues relating to charity, housing litigation, debt recovery and commercial property.
• Ability to design and deliver strategies across a complex organisation.
• Work with senior leaders within the organisation to understand priorities and business activities to help anticipate the type of legal support required.
• Set financial targets, forecasts, budgets for all internal and external legal arrangements.
• Provide legal counsel and advice.

The person:

• Qualified solicitor of England and Wales with over 5 years PQE.
• Proven track record of managing legal teams across multiple disciplines.
• Legal expertise in charity law, housing litigation, or commercial property.
• Excellent people management and pastoral care.
• Private or public sector experience.
• Ability to attend the offices 2 days per week.
• “Can do” attitude.

The role is for an initial six- month FTC, £70,000 per annum pro rata.

Candidates must be a qualified solicitor in order to be considered. Previous management experience is essential.
