Our client is a global leader in technology-led, life sciences sector. The company is growing fast, and as part of their continued growth, they have an opportunity for an experienced In-house Lawyer to join their established legal function providing key support to the General Counsel. With effective relationship and influencing skills, in this varied and interesting role you will be commercially minded, resilient and enjoy the challenge of a diverse workload. You will assist the General Counsel in a variety of areas, including strategic projects, compliance, and risk management.
The legal team is well-respected within the company; the successful candidate will have the benefit of established relationships and will be expected to continue to foster these strong relationships in a commercial, approachable, and adaptable way across our global business.
The Role
- Provide accurate, timely and commercial advice to the business on a wide range of legal and regulatory topics.
- Offer sound, clear, and succinct recommendations and analysis to senior stakeholders and business teams around data use and management, enabling innovation
- Oversee the drafting and negotiation for a range of commercial contracts.
- Lead on Mergers and Acquisitions, including oversight of all external advisers and working on post-closing integration matters.
- Horizon scanning to devise effective solutions in collaboration with both business teams and group functions, to develop efficient defence strategies and protect the business from risks, including by providing advice on the development and structuring of new business initiatives, new products and service offerings and legal and regulatory change.
- Establish and assist in maintaining sound governance practices and monitoring the efficiency of controls.
- Work on a wide range of data privacy, data governance, security / privacy by design, responsible use of data and cybersecurity matters in connection with the group's business and its compliance requirements
- Support ambitious ESG initiatives, including our environmental roadmap, social impact strategies and DE&I.
- Work closely with our HR function on global employee relations and employment law matters.
- Contribute to know-how development, training, and best practice for the Legal team.
- Deliver ad-hoc training programs and focused session groups involving legal and industry specific risks.
- Determine the intellectual property strategy, including trademarks, copyright, and proprietary software matters, including enforcement and protection.
Skills & Expertise
- The role would suit an experienced in-house solicitor 6+ years PQE (holding a current practising certificate)
- Demonstrable experience in supporting with the development and structuring of new business initiatives.
- Proven experience in risk analysis and defence strategies, and wider governance and policy establishment.
- Highly analytic with the ability to easily examine the facts related to commercial contract agreements.
- Mergers and acquisitions support experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge regarding data protection/privacy laws and implementation of compliance strategies.
- A confident, self-sufficient, positive, "team player" attitude.
- Must be capable of building effective relationships and influencing a wide range of people across the organisation and externally.
