Use your legal experience, leadership and expertise to help keep the UK safe.
This is a unique opportunity to be a vital part of MI5’s mission to keep the country safe. You will lead the branch that provides legal advice and manages engagement with legal proceedings across the full range of MI5’s business, from employment matters to national security options.
MI5 safeguards the UK against threats such as terrorism, espionage, cyber and sabotage. We investigate individuals and organisations who pose a threat to the UK by obtaining, collating, analysing and assessing secret intelligence relating to these threats.
As Legal Director, you will lead a large team and advise at Executive and Board level in the organisation and wider government. You will bring exceptional leadership experience working in an inclusive and collaborative way to support the teams around you.
You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister with extensive litigation experience and will have worked for or with Government Departments.
This role is an integral part of the senior leadership team so you will bring evidence of your ability to add value and input to strategy across an organisation, beyond your own area.
You will be supported to develop a strong understanding of MI5’s work to allow you to horizon scan for upcoming changes which may impact MI5’s work from a legal perspective, for example, legislation or technology. You will use your legal expertise to both advise and input on these changes to support the future operating of MI5.
At MI5 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. Find out more about our culture, working environment and diversity on our website.
