Commercial Legal Counsel Job - 12 Month FTC - Gloucestershire
Your new role
Our client is seeking to recruit a Legal Counsel to work within its commercial legal team to provide maternity cover for 12 months. The position is based within the business' Group Legal & Compliance function headquartered in Gloucestershire, though their homeworking policy allows for a combination of home and office based working. Ideally you will be able to start at short notice and will live within a commutable distance.
Your new role
As part of a team of legal and compliance professionals, you will use your extensive commercial legal knowledge to support the business in achieving its strategic objectives, at the same time as helping to ensure the business meets its legal and ethical obligations. You will report to the Deputy General Counsel within the UK team but will work closely with all members of the Group Legal & Compliance team, including regional and general counsels based in our subsidiary offices in the U.S., Germany and Hong Kong. You will have direct contact with senior stakeholders across the business, including directors and other executives, and should be adept at providing practical and commercially minded advice that meets the business' values. You will be required to support the senior leadership team on a range of global and local cross-functional project initiatives and provide concise and timely advice on a broad spectrum of commercial law matters, with particular emphasis on the creation, protection and exploitation of intellectual property. You will review, draft and negotiate a broad range of agreements with major customers and other key business partners, including: bilateral and multiparty collaborations and R&D agreements, agencies and distributorships, complex sales and service agreements, IP licences and assignments and bespoke commercial arrangements.
About you
You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister (English law) with 5+ years PQE, and excellent technical knowledge of commercial law and strong drafting skills. You will have a positive, adaptable and 'can do' attitude with excellent attention to detail and ideally you will have an advanced working knowledge of intellectual property matters. Experience in competition law, software, corporate governance and data protection is also desirable. Superior interpersonal skills and the confidence and ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels in the organisation. Individuals with previous in‑house experience would be particularly suited for this role.
What's in it for you
As well as a competitive salary you will enjoy a benefits package that's highly desirable; including a 9% non-contributory pension, discretionary annual bonus, subsidised onsite restaurants and coffee shops, free parking and a car sharing scheme.

If this job isn't quite right for you but you are looking for a new role, please contact Harriet Chapman in complete confidence at Hays. We would expect a lawyer with the given PQE to have gained the level of experience required, but this does not preclude applications from those with more or less PQE. INDHLEG
