Senior Legal Counsel Construction/Projects (In-house)
We are instructed by one of the leading recycling and green energy generation companies in the UK. The business owns and operates sites which span the length and breadth of the UK, recycling millions of tonnes of waste, while generating an extraordinary amount of green energy. Our client is part of a huge, international Group with net operating profits in excess of 800m (euro).
There is a strong and established Legal team, led by a super Head of Legal who is an experienced Construction / Projects lawyer. The wider team has expertise across Real Estate, Commercial etc but this Senior Legal Counsel hire will be expected to lead on all major Construction and Projects deals, taking over from the Head of Legal.
The Role
Working on large, business critical infrastructure projects worth hundreds of millions of pounds, you will act as Senior Legal Counsel to the business. Ownership / leadership of major projects from a Legal perspective, working alongside a multi-disciplinary team of colleagues.
A wide range of Construction and Projects work, including:
- Negotiating, drafting and reviewing a range of complex contracts including Construction, PPP/PFI arrangements and Ops & Maintenance agreements Working with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. Finance and Procurement) as a project team on large infrastructure deals Working closely with external legal advisors, while you jointly navigate the Construction and Projects work Guiding and advising the business on Compliance, Regulatory and Procurement
About you
You will have considerable experience working on high-value and complex contracts. Ideally, you will have at least 5 years’ or more PQE in non-contentious Construction, although PFI and Projects lawyers could work well, as well as Construction litigators who have some experience on the contract drafting side.
You will have solid training in Construction or Projects (PFI/PPP) from a top law firm or you might be working in-house in another infrastructure/civil engineering company.
Location / Salary etc
Ideally hybrid with 1 or 2 days a week in the office / on site (North) although interested lawyers from further afield are encouraged to apply and could be considered on a more remote basis (with one day a month in the office / on site).
