Head of Legal Job - South West/Midlands/Home Based - Housing Association
Your new organisation
Our client has an exciting new opportunity for a Head of Legal to join and head up their newly formed Legal Team on a full time, permanent basis. They are one of the biggest social housing and care providers in England and believe passionately in their mission to build better lives and provide social housing and support services to many people across their localities. This role can be based out of our clients offices in either Wiltshire, Gloucester or West Bromwich, however it can mostly be home based, therefore they are keen to speak with candidates in locations such as Bristol, Gloucestershire, Midlands, Wiltshire, Somerset and Wales.
Your new role
The Legal Services team forms part of the Governance and Compliance function and provides legal assistance and support to the organisation in ensuring its legal and regulatory duties and responsibilities are met. As Head of Legal, you will assume management responsibilities from Day 1 and you will need to lead the delivery of high-quality legal advice and support to the organisation and its subsidiaries and operations in line with regulatory and legal requirements and the organisations objectives. These include overseeing the delivery of a range of legal advice including property, housing management, disrepairs, general commercial, data protection and other ad hoc legal matters ensuring that any deadlines (whether statutory or internal) are met and such advice meets the business needs of the Group and managing all requests for advice coming into the legal services team through a central inbox, ensuring timely and accurate responses are provided. The first year in the role will be focussed on setting up and developing the team, rather than specialist legal work. In time you will also recruit and add further heads to your team.
You will build, manage and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring delivery of a quality services that represents value for money, identifying any shortfalls in service delivery and ensuring they are dealt with adequately.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need to be a personable, confident Solicitor or Legal Executive with 6+ PQE. You must have experience of advising senior managers and staff on a breadth of legal issues and be fully committed to delivering an excellent customer experience, as well as a desire to supervise/manage and lead and grow a team. Previous knowledge of housing regulations, legislation and current practice would be highly beneficial for this role.
You will ideally have experience of managing budgets and legal spend and you must be able to analyse information relating to complex situations and communicate findings clearly and precisely.
You must have the ability to build personal credibility by demonstrating the organisation's values, building trust with partners in the organisation and proactively contributing to organisational success.
