Job Details
An excellent opportunity to join a FTSE 100 multinational FMCG who have global operations within 53 countries. They are looking for a Data Protection Counsel, who will be dealing with some interesting and complex areas of privacy. In addition to this, you will provide support and advise on all aspects of data protection to their businesses based in the UK and the wider EMEA regions.
The role
- Support their businesses to implement their data protection initiatives, which will include running cadence calls and being responsible for allocated business units.
- Provide timely, accurate, quality legal advice, on all aspects of data protection, to the businesses based in the UK and the wider EMEA region.
- Provide specialist data protection legal advice as an integral part of their data protection governance framework to the businesses based in the UK and the wider EMEA region including assessing and advising on compliance gaps; advising on incidents and data breaches, data subject access requests and data retention; reviewing data protection impact assessments; and advising on internal transfers compliance.
- Maintaining a regular dialogue and building strong relationships with Data Protection Co-ordinators across the businesses by playing an active part when the business implements solutions and help them to drive compliance on all areas of data protection.
- Provide support to the businesses EMEA and non-EMEA businesses due to changes in data protection law and practice (including regulator guidance and enforcement activities, and key business trends and best practice), and inform the wider legal team and the businesses of any changes required to their compliance approach as a result.
- Assist with maintaining existing data protection policies, guidance, templates, and other DP programme materials. Developing new materials for use across the group, on the business's intranet and elsewhere.
- Coordinate with members of their global legal team to support implementation of existing and new international data protection laws and programmes.
- Assist the DP team with delivering data protection training sessions to their businesses and its legal team, both online and face-to-face.
- To draft, review, negotiate, and advise on commercial arrangements (both business-as-usual and more strategic arrangements) that impact on data protection, including data transfer agreements.
- Support the data protection assurance programme, working with external counsel and with IT Internal Auditors.
- Support the relevant lead commercial lawyers for each business on appropriate matters, ensuring that key issues are communicated and discussed as appropriate.
About you
- Qualified solicitor in the UK or any recognised international jurisdiction
- At least 2 years PQE
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister
- Good experience of data protection, preferably a large complex multinational business or high-quality legal practice. Experience in FMCG or a related industry is desirable.
- Strong technical ability and experience in relation to a wide variety of legal issues encountered by businesses, including an up to date understanding of market/industry practices and legal developments.
