Job Details

As part of the legal function, support the business in managing all legal issues within our client with specific focus on underwriting and wordings but also including claims, delegated authority, reinsurance and compliance.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Qualified Lawyer
  • Post qualification experience in private practice or another insurance in- house Legal team handling policy wordings / coverages / reinsurance claims
  • Financial Services or Insurance experience

Skills and Demonstrated Experience

  • Effective Corporate/Commercial legal advice
  • Policy and Contract Clauses and templates
  • Regulatory and corporate governance experience within PRA, FCA, Lloyd’s minimum standards
  • Excellent written skills

Accountabilities

  • To advise on (re)insurance wordings, claims coverage/litigation strategy, delegated underwriting and other insurance law issues.
  • To advise on commercial and corporate contract issues including intra-group agreements and third party service contracts.
  • To work with our client's Underwriters and Claims teams to ensure wordings and DUAs are maintained and processed in accordance with group wide policies.
  • To support and advise Lloyd's managing agency and the service companies and distribution channels.
  • Advise on English law queries encountered by the business and where appropriate manage external counsel instructions.
  • To provide training and develop template contracts and other processes aimed at achieving consistency and streamlining provision of legal advice.
  • To support the Legal team in identifying any significant legal exposures and provide legal updates to the business.
  • Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
  • Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the sub POG, Underwriting Committee, Claims and DUA groups for Conduct Risk.
  • Takes responsibility for own and colleagues’ Health & Safety at all times.
  • To ensure customers are treated fairly at all times, in accordance with the Conduct Risk Policy and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • To be aware and adhere to all obligations under GDPR, ensuring that the business complies with these requirements.
  • To avoid breaches and to report them to the Data Protection Officer when they occur regardless of whether electronic or on paper.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Statutory, personal and Company Health & Safety policy regulations are adhered to.
  • Compliance with applicable Regulatory Requirements and Lloyd's Minimum Standards (where applicable) and our client's policies and procedures
  • Satisfactory performance as reflected in relevant Conduct Risk MI.
  • Adherence to Antares policies and procedures in relation to GDPR
  • Timely completion of ongoing training in relation to GDPR
