In-house Commercial Lawyer

We are looking for a Commercial Lawyer (2 – 5 years PQE) with commercial contracts experience to join the team. The successful candidate will formally report to the operating business’ Head of Legal & Compliance, but on a day-to-day basis will be guided by and will report to the Senior Commercial Lawyer. The role will be based in Sheffield.

In the UK the operating business of Primetals is split over several sites, including Sheffield, Stockton-on-Tees, Christchurch and Scunthorpe

MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviewing customer terms and conditions and advising management on risk profiles prior to submission of tenders for projects.
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts for the sale of large-scale international projects.
• Contract interpretation and dispute support to Project Management colleagues to resolve claims.
• Domestic and international travel (often at short notice) to other offices of Primetals and to customer sites (subject to COVID rules and safety considerations).
• Proactive management and mitigation of legal and commercial risks by applying detailed corporate rules/governance processes and supporting the business in compliance with the same.
• Delivering training on internal contract standards and also on wider legal and compliance topics.
• Managing external counsel where applicable.
• Cooperating with colleagues in other jurisdictions to provide support on English law topics.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Fully qualified solicitor practising in England and Wales.
• Some post qualification experience with leading national law firm and/or in-house legal team of multinational company.
• Experience in advising on and drafting bespoke contracts and claims management.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills; highly motivated team player; analytical, resilient, professional and proactive; intercultural skills.
• Ability to deal confidently and build strong relationships with senior business colleagues.
• Ability to build relationships with multi-national teams (legal and non-legal).
• A flexible and pragmatic attitude and a proven ability to multi-task.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Full UK driving licence is required.
• Our current office working pattern is 3 days (Tue – Thur). Working from home is available with agreement of the line manager on Monday and Friday.
