The Competition and Markets Authority is one of the world's top competition and consumer agencies. It is vital that we operate to best practice standards of governance and compliance and that our decisions are legally robust. So, we have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Legal Director to play a key role advising on issues relating to governance and compliance across the CMA.

The Assistant Legal Director will be responsible for advising the Chair, Board and Senior Executive Team on appropriate governance arrangements and ensuring that the CMA Board’s decision making, rules and procedures meet relevant legal and best practice standards. In this role, you will work closely with the Executive Office, senior leaders and other colleagues to ensure robust systems are in place to deliver integrated and effective Board governance.

An additional responsibility will be to assist the Legal Director in the establishment and operation of a single, integrated legal compliance function, helping to ensure the CMA’s compliance with relevant statutory obligations and internal policies.

You will need to be a fully qualified lawyer, entitled to practise in the UK or be willing to sit and pass the QLTT on appointment. Significant knowledge of and practical post-qualification experience on matters related to corporate governance and compliance or similar is essential. Experience of delivering high quality analysis, advising on decisions, writing reports and contributing to policy is equally important.

In return the CMA is a hugely diverse, rewarding and stimulating place to work – an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee assistance programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.
