Interim Legal Counsel

Our client, a leading defence manufacturing organisation, is looking to recruit an Interim Legal Counsel to support their in-house legal team.

Hybrid working with 2-3 days on-site at the offices in the Preston area.

The role will focus on providing specialist legal advice and support to the business, working as a trusted business partner interacting with senior stakeholders and will include the following:

• Providing proactive, high quality, business-focused legal advice, and solutions in a timely manner and as a business partner, across multiple jurisdictions
• Ensuring governance in establishing international partnerships with customers and industry partners.
• Understanding the commercial, political, and economic issues affecting the business.
• Drafting, negotiating, agreeing, completing, and supporting contractual arrangements with customers and partners which contribute to the development of the business.
• Ensuring that the business is compliant with all applicable legal requirements including health and safety, procurement law, product safety, compliance, export control and ethical business conduct.
• Contributing to the wider global legal function, as and when required.

Applications are sought from qualified solicitors or barristers with at least 5 years PQE who have worked in-house. Previous experience of reviewing, drafting, and amending a wide range of commercial contracts is required, along with broad commercial law expertise. International exposure is also preferred and there may be some occasional travel. Excellent communication skills and strong commercial acumen are also key.

Starting at short notice, the role will run for 6 months initially with potential to be extended further.
