In-House Legal Adviser (fixed term maternity cover contract) – Muse Developments
Muse Developments, a subsidiary of Morgan Sindall Group plc – the UK’s leading construction and regeneration company, has been delivering large-scale commercial, residential and mixed-use schemes for over three decades. Working in close partnership with landowners, occupiers, local authorities, community groups, government agencies and private investors across the UK, through development agreements and joint ventures, they create sustainable working, living and leisure space.
With offices in London, Leeds and Manchester that cover the length and breadth of the UK, a broad portfolio of 41 schemes with an end value of over £4 billion are being delivered in partnership by Muse, The English Cities Fund (Homes England and Legal & General) and Waterside Places.
The in-house legal team at Muse is seeking to recruit an exceptional solicitor, experienced in property development work, for a fixed term maternity cover contract post to be based in either its London or Manchester office and work closely with the Legal & Commercial Director based in London. The contract will be for around 6 months running from January 2023 to June 2023.
The new Legal Adviser will be involved in a variety of development projects and will negotiate and finalise legal documentation (particularly development agreements) on project or joint venture arrangements. You will assist on aspects such as procurement and finance, and ensure that external legal advisers understand the company’s approach to risk management and can deliver on projects.
The successful candidate will use and help to manage and develop the company’s suite of bespoke construction protocol documentation, and communicate any relevant legal updates to the business. You must be confident enough to work autonomously, good at coordinating projects and keeping stakeholders and external law firms organised.
You will join a legal function which operates on a strategic basis on ongoing projects, reacts to any situations as they arise, and most importantly provides timely and clear advice to the business. Disputes can happen, and you will have day to day responsibility to manage one or more of any such disputes involving Muse, depending on other live issues in the business.
A competitive salary with a generous benefits scheme including a car allowance and fixed term contract retention bonus is on offer to the right person, who will work mainly from the London or Manchester office (team collaboration is important here) with some time from home if required.
We value difference. As part of our commitment to building a diverse workforce, we welcome applications from candidates who are from under-represented backgrounds.
