Who you’ll be:
Reporting into the Head of Legal, you will have proven experience in commercial contract law and be familiar with a variety of contracts. You will need to be a commercially driven Lawyer with either in-house or private practice experience who understands and identifies legal risks.
Responsibilities:
- You will provide day to day support and guidance to the Group on all aspects of commercial law, regulatory compliance and risk management in respect of contracts.
- You will work as a subject matter expert on commercial contracts and other proposed arrangements by drafting, reviewing and managing for the UK and other jurisdictions.
- You will be the point of contact in the legal team for all commercial contract reviews and feedback to colleagues so as to achieve the best balance of commerciality and legal risk, including identifying when there is a need for specialist advice.
- You will develop, and maintain systems to improve supply chain legal arrangements including purchase agreements and corresponding policies, procedures and guidance materials. You will maintain various policies that support the various agreements and Lush’s ethical position.
- You will develop and deliver internal training and education programmes in relation to Pre-contract considerations such as tenders and good governance, other, legal matters (e.g. contract, confidentiality etc.) and compliance (e.g. competition law, anti-bribery & corruption, GDPR etc.) signing mandates, risk, processes, system and regularly update the various template agreements to further streamline and reduce external spend and time.
- You will maintain the electronic management of all agreements, working with the data project manager to further develop the process, templates and storage system for agreements.
- You will carry out an annual legal audit risk assessment across Group and Associates to identify areas that can be improved upon in respect of entering into agreements and provide the HoL regular updates.
- Proactively monitor legal and regulatory developments and highlight any current and emerging risks to the HoL and the legal team.
- You will refer disputes to the litigation team member and you will refer to corporate team member for any formal board minutes.
- You will undertake other ad hoc tasks to support the team.
- Administrative duties.
Skills and experience:
- Degree qualified with post qualification experience in commercial law, specifically extensive experience in reviewing and drafting commercial contracts.
- Strong understanding of contract law, with practical experience drafting and reviewing, negotiating commercial contracts and providing guidance on legal correspondence, with a good understanding of utilising external resources such as PLC law.
- Track record in developing, delivering, and continuously improving contract review processes.
- An understanding of intellectual property law is an advantage.
- Able to understand the law and apply it to our business without making it over complicated using exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organised and responsive, with the ability to maintain composure whilst working to tight deadlines.
- Experience of working productively in an ever-changing landscape with multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in accuracy.
