Private Wealth Senior Lawyer - 10yrs + PQE - Dubai

The Firm

The firm’s specialist Family Business practice is the market leader in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). We build legal structures and put in place binding agreements which defend family assets from both external and internal risks, and we formulate and record agreements which pave the way for seamless succession and sound stewardship for families in business.

 

The firm is looking for a senior lawyer with a background in international private wealth work to exploit its unique market position to drive the practice forward and enhance its capabilities.

The Role

To advise regional high net worth individuals and some of the largest family companies in the Middle East and the wider MENA region on:

 

  • trust structuring and restructuring governance structures businesses and investment structures to reduce and manage legal and tax risks and exposures frameworks for resolving issues and differences, without damaging the fabric of family life formulation of clear pathways to succession and stewardship under both Sharia and common law inheritance rules, including family agreements and trust deeds.

preparation of wills for non-Muslims made under the jurisdiction of the Dubai International Financial Centre or other regional legal systems

Skills & Experience

The position would suit an outstanding senior level qualified lawyer with a minimum of 10+ years’ experience in international private wealth work. The lawyer might be at senior level (partner or equivalent) level in an established private client practice in the UK and/or in an off-shore jurisdiction.

 

  • You will ideally have gained demonstrable exposure to, or expertise of, family business groups in UAE or GCC region and have a proven historyof servicing the needs of such clients It is essential that you have a proven track record in building client relationships You should be able to demonstrate extensive experience in:
    • Estate and succession planning Establishment and administration of private trust companies Structuring trusts to comply with Shariah rules Asset and tax structuring Family Governance Family disputes

You should demonstrate strong communication and analytical skills and a high level of commercial awareness. You should desire client exposure and responsibility, and the opportunity to nurture and develop your own personal client relationships. You should demonstrate the ability to manage and supervise teams and to work closely with counsels, senior associates and partners. You should also have a genuine and demonstrable interest in, or affinity for, the Middle East.  However, Arabic language skills are not required.
