Role - Privacy Legal Counsel

To support JD Group with data and privacy related legal matters, JD seeks to recruit a dedicated Privacy Legal Counsel to join its dynamic and hard-working Group Legal Team.

Reporting into the Head of Legal Compliance, you will have day to day contact with business stakeholders from across the Group. You'll work closely with the Group's Data Protection Officer, and Data Protection and InfoSec Teams to support, procure and implement new technologies, and comply with data protection laws and regulations.

You will also have responsibility for building and managing relationships with all of the relevant compliance regulators including the FCA, CMA, Trading Standards, ASA, ICO, and other governmental regulators, both in the UK and internationally.

The role includes an exciting mix of ongoing privacy projects concerning the compliant use of customer data, along with the implementation of longer-term compliance programs throughout the JD Group.

About you:

Applications are encouraged from UK qualified solicitors with at least 4 years' PQE in advising on data protection matters. You should have the ability to work with all levels of the JD Group (including the executive leadership team), have experience interacting with the ICO and other data/privacy regulators, and possess experience of cybersecurity management.

The ability to manage international legal matters, and take ownership of key international territories is key, as is experience in dealing with data elements of commercial IT/technology contracts.

Desirable (but not essential) is experience of working in a consumer facing/e-commerce industry sector, experience advising on privacy and technology matters that arise in corporate transactions, and prior in-house experience (especially in retail).

Location:

The JD Group office is situated in Bury, Greater Manchester. Hybrid working is available and applications from lawyers based in other areas of the UK are welcomed.

As JD Group is an international business, an element of international travel is required in this role.
