Commercial Lawyers - range of disciplines

Surely you've been in the position of wondering why you are still stuck in the office working on a deal when all else around you seem to have finished for the day. Was the 2am completion truly necessary? How can I plan my life when I am beholden to a transaction? Maybe you are tired of litigation and the constant battles and wanted to reengage in a commercial setting.

You like the challenge and the thrust of complex matters but the pressure and time demands can be unrelenting and leave you wondering - is there a better option out there?

As ever its a deeply personal question. It really depends on where you place the value.

There is certainly an alternative but invariable there are compromises that come with that. What are they? Well, in essence you are taking a step away from the top level deal side of corporate and transactions - by that I mean you will be working on a discrete elements of transactions -Yes, this can include things like DD but it goes way beyond that scope. To the extent that you play a role in corporate deals, these can  be top level often multi-jurisdictional multi-billion pound deals. Certainly not to be sniffed at and not for the faint hearted.

That's the central compromise but the off-set is a very competitive salary with a commensurate benefits package. Flexibility, agility and all the technology at your fingers tips alongside regular and detailed training will allow you to be efficient. The last part will be incredibly helpful as your working hours will also be fixed and give you the opportunity to fully have a handle on your time. No late nights and no all-nighters.

In terms of what the firm is looking for - all levels and all commercial experience. Whether that be experience gained in corporate, commercial, real estate or banking and finance as well as commercial litigation where that contentious analysis can be invaluable - if you have exposure to a good level of quality in those disciplines then we are interested in speaking with you.

A lot of people have dismissed the idea without having a true sense of the work, the people and the scope for progression and yet it rarely fails to gain approval when you have the chance to talk about what it is. That doesn't mean it is for everyone but if you are somewhere on the fence then get in contact. Maybe it isn't for you but you just never know.
