Legal Advisor Job - Bristol + Hybrid - Generous benefits

Your new company
As a regulatory authority, our client are constantly pushing themselves to achieve the best for their customers, particularly those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds, and as such, they enjoy a stimulating working environment in which they directly benefit society.

They currently have an excellent opportunity for a Legal Advisor to join their forward-thinking legal team in Bristol. The team are working in a hybrid manner and anticipate that the successful candidate will need to come to Bristol 2 days per week.

Your new role
This role requires significant engagement with internal stakeholders. You will enjoy a variety of interesting challenges and support a range of teams across the organisation in carrying out their roles. You will help ensure that colleagues are carrying out their regulatory functions in line with the law, and that all decisions are being taken on a legally-sound basis. Working across various legal areas, you will therefore be their first port of call for comprehensive legal advice, and will support them in making the most effective decisions. On a day-to-day basis your work will span a wide variety of fields. For example, you might get involved with managing the conduct of litigation activities, such as judicial review proceedings, statutory appeals and regulatory investigations. You will provide legal advice and support on legal topics relevant to decision making and supporting processes, such as public law principles, statutory duties and considerations, the delegation of functions and equalities legislation; Human rights law; Charity law and the law relating to defamation. Finally, you will lead on the production of internal guidance documents on key legal and regulatory issues to a high standard.

About You
This is a great opportunity to challenge yourself in a fast-paced team and you will excel if you have the capacity to think laterally and creatively. Our client are happy to consider applications from newly qualified lawyers and upwards. You will ideally have understanding of public law; it is possible that you will have previously held a role/did your training contract within another regulator, central government or a law firm, and you will be comfortable working in a rapidly changing political environment. If joining as a qualified lawyer, you will have gained post qualification experience of higher education law, public law (e.g. experience of advising on judicial reviews), working in other regulators or government departments and other relevant litigation experience, including familiarity with the civil procedure rules. Furthermore, you will have the ability to analyse and advise on complex legal issues; an ability to adopt a creative and innovative approach to legal issues and an ability to influence and negotiate.

With the flexibility to work across numerous areas of law, you will really enjoy balancing the needs of competing projects, and you will bring a team-player attitude to every task. With a good degree of resilience, you will have exceptional communication, influencing, organisation and stakeholder management skills. Our client are particularly interested in candidates with some experience of conducting regulatory investigations, but this is not a pre-requisite.

What's in it for you
With a great deal of responsibility from day one, you will be encouraged to manage your own workload - though you will always find plenty of support from the friendly and helpful team when you need it. You will also benefit from ongoing training and development opportunities, with the scope to further your expertise across a broad range of legal fields. You will enjoy a competitive benefits package (including the benefits of a public sector pension) and you will enjoy a good work-life balance thanks to flexible working options and the introduction of hybrid working.
