Up to £106,880 per annum (depending on experience) inclusive of London Weighting and a Market Forces Supplement

As the governing body of the Square Mile, a global business hub, the City of London Corporation regularly engages with Parliament on issues relevant to its work, helping Parliament to debate and make decisions informed by a wide range of evidence. Within the City Corporation, the City Remembrancer's Office leads on this engagement.

The City Remembrancer is one of the City of London's four Law Officers and is the City's Parliamentary Agent in addition to being responsible for maintaining and protecting the City’s constitution. As the City’s Chief of Protocol the Remembrancer acts as the channel of communication with the Royal Households and the London Diplomatic Corps as well as overseeing significant civic events.

The Office is looking for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister to provide legislative, parliamentary and constitutional law services.  Working with the Remembrancer the main duties of the role will be:

  • drafting private bills, private members’ bills and amendments to government legislation and overseeing any relevant parliamentary proceedings
  • providing advice on constitutional law issues relating to the City
  • contributing to parliamentary briefing and engagement

The post-holder will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of high-profile events focused on major anniversaries or commemorations, taking advantage of opportunities for high-level engagement with significant stakeholders including the UK Government, Embassies and High Commissions.

Significant experience of legislative drafting and advising on public and/or constitutional law issues at the highest level is required. The post-holder will form part of the Remembrancer’s senior leadership team and appropriate leadership experience is required.
