Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial) - 12 month FTC to Perm – Hybrid Working
Purpose of Role
- To act as a Senior Business Partner, providing legal advice that actively contributes to and supports the strategic direction of the organisation
- To act as an integral part of the teams that you support, influencing decisions and outcomes with confidence
- To provide generalist and specialist legal advice, support and challenge leaders ensuring risks are fully understood thereby enhancing confidence in decision making and facilitating good business outcomes
Key Responsibilities
- To work with key stakeholders across all divisions, ensuring that they are an integral part of the decision-making processes - understanding and influencing the strategic direction through robust challenge, debate and expertise.
- To take a proactive approach to and responsibility for developing and maintaining senior stakeholder relationships and to actively influence and manage those relationships to enable the successful delivery of strategic projects and tactical interventions.
- Communication and Stakeholder Management
- Managing Risk and Compliance
- To manage the efficient outsourcing of business as usual, strategic and complex legal matters to panel law firms and alternative providers, ensuring regular reporting and fee negotiations.
Skills and knowledge
- Qualified to practice as a solicitor in the United Kingdom / 4-8 PQE
- A track record of expertise in commercial law
- Strong project management and time management skills
- Ability to work efficiently and develop work processes and continuous improvement
- Experience in retail sector preferred, but other in-house experience within fast moving / rapidly changing environments also considered
- Experience of working with law firms to procure legal advice, including experience in agreeing fees and managing the timely and cost-effective delivery of work
