Principal Complaints and Investigations Manager

Worcester

£47,549 - £54,728

Ref: 202636

If you’re well-versed in environmental law, the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) could be the perfect home for your expertise. The independent arbitrators of environmental protection after our exit from the EU, we tackle some of the most pressing issues of our generation, from climate change to biodiversity loss.

One aspect of our work involves handling complaints from the public and other sources about suspected failures to comply with environmental law. Complaints range from the relatively simple, to the novel, to national significance.

As Principal Complaints and Investigations Manager, you’ll investigate these complaints as the head of a talented team of data, environment and economic scientists, analysts and lawyers. Together, you’ll verify information, determine whether the law has been breached and recommend any actions the public authority should take – with investigations set out in published reports.

Importantly, you’ll instil an ethos of objective negotiation with public authorities, and ensure every decision is backed up by data, defensible in court and clearly communicated to everyone involved.

A relevant degree-level environmental law or regulation qualification is essential (or equivalent experience). Beyond this, we’re looking for strong experience of interpreting and applying environmental law, and leading public-facing or operational services.

A respected negotiator and confident project manager; you’ll also have a good understanding of risk management, and have improved large multi-disciplinary teams before. We’ll also lean on your innovation as you take on the challenge of creating a complaints and investigations function from the ground up.

The natural environment is important for everyone and we aim for our teams to reflect the diversity of our society. Your personal qualities will be as important as your professional experience and applications are welcomed from all backgrounds.

Closing date: 11:55pm, Monday 6th June 2022.
