My client is a leading US software development company that provides innovative and industry-leading software solutions for engineering & construction professionals. With over 4,000 employees and yearly revenues exceeding €700 million in over 160 countries, this business continues to grow with major expansion plans for 2022. They now wish to hire a legal counsel to join the Candian Legal Team which currently has 30+ team members working worldwide.
The Role
You will be responsible for commercial/IT negotiations (focusing primarily on Canada and North America) and other general legal work. Your ability to draft and negotiate commercial software licensing, consulting and subcontracting agreements and advise on responding to RFPs. The trick with this role is to find the balance between legal and commercial risk against the commercial priorities of the company. This position requires you to act as the trusted legal advisor to internal stakeholders with respect to commercial transactions and the development of commercial programs.
The Candidate
Must be fluent in English, while being a French Speaking Lawyer is advantageous and not required. Must have obtained a law degree from a credible University and have legal training from a leading Law Firm. Must have a minimum of 3 years of commercial law experience gained in-house. Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate will have experience with software licensing transactions and/or experience in the IT/software industry. Candidates with previous legal experience handling government procurement contracts, cloud, data protection, and privacy issues are advantageous. The preferred choice of location for this role is East Coast Canadia and possibly East coast US.
