Our Regulatory Department is very diverse, offering a broad range of expert advice to organisations and individuals. This work includes advising the NHS and private care providers in relation to the legal issues associated with the delivery of care, including inquests, investigations, capacity, consent, confidentiality, CQC regulation, information governance and treatment under the Mental Health Act.

We are currently recruiting for a Solicitor 3+ years PQE (or equivalent) to join our team.  This is a truly diverse healthcare advisory role, covering the whole gambit of advisory and inquest work for health and care clients.

This role can be based in Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham or Newcastle

You will be provided with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of matters for health and care organisations.  Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Advocacy at pre-inquest review hearings and inquests
  • Advising the NHS, and private health and care clients in relation to healthcare law (for example in relation to issues of capacity, consent, confidentiality, CQC regulation, information governance etc.)
  • Manage a caseload of files
  • Achieve set hours and billing targets
  • Ensure case management records are maintained
  • Assist with business development initiatives including training and networking
  • Produce monthly and ad-hoc client MI reports

This list is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role. You will also ensure that you comply with the relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures, and consistently work in accordance with our values.

About You

You will be a qualified solicitor with at least 3 years PQE (or similar relevant experience), and you will have experience of the issues relevant to organisations in the health and social care sector.  As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have:

  • Advocacy experience
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Excellent collaborative and team working skills
