Due to growth, an opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Corporate Tax Solicitor (NQ+) to join the team and advise across a broad range of clients and sectors. The Corporate team is comprised of Chambers-rated Lawyers and is consistently ranked in the Top Tier for corporate finance.

The successful individual will work closely with senior members of the department including Partners, whilst liaising with other teams and advising on all taxation aspects of a transaction, both domestic and international. They will focus on mitigating liabilities and maximising allowances, providing tax support on corporate transactions and helping to design and implement equity incentive schemes for our clients.

The corporate tax team is highly ranked in the Legal 500 and headed by a tax director, recognised as a leading individual. The team frequently advise on the following matters:

  • Corporate finance support on trade and private equity deals
  • HMRC investigations
  • Management tax incentives on buy-in and buy-out
  • Tax advice to buyers and sellers of development land
  • Advice to investment funds on inward investment in UK commercial and residential property
  • Advice on tax efficient extraction of value from private companies and partnerships
  • Advice on innovative user of partnership structures
  • SDLT and ATED advice to residential and non-residential persons regarding investment in UK urban and rural property
  • Disclosure of tax irregularities and HMRC under the various disclosure regimes
  • Maximising entrepreneurs relief of SSE on setting-up and disposing of real estate assets and shares
  • Tax based mediation
  • Issues surrounding VAT and sales by receivers, etc

The Role

The firm has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Corporate Tax Associate to join the team and take responsibility for a wide range of transactions both contentious and non-contentious. You will be responsible for providing tax support across the firm but primarily corporate finance support, assistance with acquisition and mergers, HMRC investigations and advice on investments, such as EIS, and complex tax issues. The team also deals with share and employee incentives.

You should have drive and an enthusiasm for a broad diet of corporate tax work. The successful candidate is also likely to be a strong team player with good inter-personal skills, to have strong academics and high quality experience – typically gained within a major City or leading national/regional practice.

You will also possess excellent communication, negotiation and organisational skills.  First-class support and learning and development opportunities will be provided and early responsibility is offered to all team members.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a qualified solicitor from NQ–2 years’ PQE who has trained with a leading City, National or Regional firm.
  • Have at least six months’ experience gained within a dedicated corporate tax team, with experience of tax support for M&A transactions.
  • Have a strong academic record with at least a 2:1 at degree level. 
  • Be a team player with first class client care and communication skills across all levels. 
  • Possess meticulous attention to detail and a high level of numeracy.

Experience Required: 

You will have some experience of working in a corporate tax team with experience of advising clients on the tax structure and tax implications including the purchase and sale of shares and businesses, demergers, reconstructions, MBOs, MBIs, equity raising, and joint ventures.

You will also preferably have some experience in advising on share incentives and other forms of employee incentives. You will be able to build effective and positive client relationships quickly and fully embrace the importance of client service.

Requirements:

  • 6-12 months of corporate and/or tax experience (a corporate seat with tax exposure)
  • Preferably a CTA qualification - optional
  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective communicator at all levels (written and verbal).
  • A commercial, pro-active and professional approach to work.
  • Excellent organisational skills, demonstrable examples of multi-tasking and an ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Must interact well with others in a sensitive and effective way - a team player.
  • Must be self-motivated, committed to working towards goals with strong enthusiasm and career commitment. Understand the importance of confidentiality and use of discretion.
  • Possess the ability to cope well under pressure.
  • Must be flexible, successfully adapting to changing demands and conditions.
  • Demonstrate self-confidence, initiative, and be an innovative thinker.
