JBS Executive Education Limited (JBSEEL) is part of the Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) and a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Cambridge. Executive Education provides world-class education programmes that deliver real world impact, and comprise a portfolio of open programmes and a substantial suite of custom programmes, with formats of delivery that range from live-online to asynchronous online, and in-person. The portfolio of Executive Education activities form a vibrant and integral part of the overall portfolio of educational activities offered by CJBS. In that regard, Executive Education operates under the broader governance rules and procedures set by the University of Cambridge and follows the same overall strategic goals as the other activities of CJBS.  

We are seeking a qualified solicitor to lead on the assessment and resolution of complex commercial contracts, and to advise on the contract terms and conditions for agreements between Executive Education and its global corporate clients and partners. The role holder will ensure the defence and protection of JBSEEL’s interest in terms of Intellectual property, licensing, valuation of assets, and royalties through robust negotiation techniques. They will also act as data protection officer for Executive Education and as the delegated Secretary to the Executive Education Board, attending and minuting meetings.

As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will support and implement the vision, strategy and values of JBSEEL through effective contract management with clients and corporate partners. You will be agile and able to adapt in a changing business environment and to embrace and effect change. You will identify and implement new processes and procedures to ensure a smoother 'user experience' for the business. Working closely with our sales teams you’ll advise on complex commercial and legal contract negotiations in support of new business activity for a variety of contract types including tenders and requests for proposals, services agreements, non-disclosure agreements and memoranda of understanding, for national and international clients. Your knowledge of commercial and contract law, together with a strategic, horizon-scanning approach, will keep the Director of JBSEEL and Senior Management Team informed of any new legislation or regulations that potentially affect Executive Education and our business.

You will also work closely with the University of Cambridge and Cambridge Judge Business School in particular to ensure compliance of the business with wider University requirements and regulations.

This is a broad and varied role that would suit a qualified lawyer with experience in drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements and in data protection and legal compliance, ideally within the Higher Education or related sector.

This is a full-time, permanent role. We offer a competitive salary in the range of £60,000 - £70,000 in addition to a bonus scheme, and generous benefits package. Flexible working arrangements such as working a proportion of time from home are available.
