Corporate Solicitor - Sports & Media

An unusual job title to say the least but at its most base level, an accurate overview of things.

First and foremost this is a corporate role - M&A, Re-organisations and general corporate advice. The sports and media element is driven principally by the firm's particular focus in these sectors.

The background to the role may help with understanding both the needs of the firm as well as the kind of individual it might suit. The firm is one of the leading Sports Law practices in the U.K. and has an international standing with clients all over the world. It is highly regarded in the fields of commercial, regulatory, employment, immigration and litigation with a sports and media specific focus. They are a top tier ranked firm and unquestionably, the most prolific team in the country for football player transfers.

The boutique firm was founded in 2015 and has a creative approach which is different to that of more traditional firms with a strong ‘entrepreneurial’ culture and the promotion of growth and business development at all levels.

Their clients include athletes, players, agencies, clubs and other high net worth individuals that have broader investment requirements which fuels corporate activity. As part of its continued strategic growth, the firm is developing its corporate service offering and thus there is a unique opportunity for a high calibre corporate lawyer to help drive the firm’s expansion.

That last part is what it is all about - they are looking for an individual who has the appetite and aptitude to work closely with the Partners to develop the corporate side of the business, someone who has the capacity to either bring work or is confident in their capacity to develop their network and also win work from the firm’s existing client base.

It is the nature of the firm that there is genuinely nothing quite like this out there. You will need to have the confidence and ability to work independently on deals so it is likely that you will be upwards of 5 years PQE although this is not a pre-requisite. Whether this is a senior associate, legal director or partner role is really dependant on a number of factors (not least experience) and the firm is open to consider high quality candidates who are ready to grasp this opportunity.
