Help us create a better future, quicker

We are looking to recruit a Regulatory Solicitor into our Scottish Power Renewables business.

ScottishPower Renewables is at the forefront of the development of the renewables industry through pioneering ideas, forward thinking and outstanding innovation. Our ambitious growth plans include expansion of our existing onshore wind portfolio, investment in new large-scale solar deployment and innovative grid storage systems including batteries.  Building on the success of our West of Duddon Sands and East Anglia One offshore wind farms, we are delivering the Iberdrola Group’s offshore windfarms in the UK including the 3.1GW East Anglia Hub.  We are also leading the way in the ambitious ScotWind programme being the most successful developer securing a pipeline of 7GW across three projects.  There will be significant regulatory change required to deliver the UK’s Energy Strategy and we will be at the forefront influencing and shaping the energy transition through our market leading projects.

What you’ll be doing

Working as a Solicitor in the ScottishPower Legal Team (the “Legal Team”) on all regulatory matters across ScottishPower Renewables’ (“SPR”) onshore and offshore businesses in relation to projects in all four UK jurisdictions and the Republic of Ireland.

Leading, influencing and managing legal support across SPR’s entire business, in respect of all regulatory matters arising in respect of SPR’s offshore wind and onshore wind, solar and battery portfolios.

Proactively identifying and managing day-to-day strategic commercial and regulatory legal risks across SPR’s entire business, facilitating efficient and effective application and implementation of SPR’s business objectives, whilst at all times providing commercially pragmatic and strategic legal advice.

Proactively identifying and managing day-to-day regulatory legal risks across each of the SPR business areas and technologies facilitating efficient and effective application and implementation of SP’s business objectives, whilst at all times providing commercially pragmatic and strategic regulatory legal advice.

Ensuring compliance with the governance processes applicable to SPR, including all corporate policies, best practices and information requirements in force throughout the Group, and assisting in their implementation and application.

What you’ll bring

We are looking for candidates who are a current member of a UK Law Society, with sound knowledge of the regulatory regime applicable to the GB energy industry.

The successful candidate will be a qualified lawyer, ideally with solid regulatory experience, from a large commercial law firm or equivalent in-house legal team. Nevertheless, we are open to hearing from lawyers with general commercial or corporate experience who would be interested in developing their skills.

You will hold excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong focus on delivering first class customer service and delivering value.

You will have proven ability to persuade, challenge, influence and build credibility at all levels and within all functions of the organisation (including at an executive team/senior management level).

The role is principally based in our Glasgow HQ. However, the successful candidate must also be willing and able to travel regularly to attend meetings across the Group’s business portfolio (Scotland, England and Wales and Ireland).

What’s in it for you

As well as a competitive salary, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we’ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.

And at ScottishPower, we believe it’s the little things we do in life that make a big difference.
