The Department

Our Client Relationships department is made up of six segments which work together to achieve growth in the legal market via our successful and developed client relationships.

The segments are Insurance, Built Environment, Corporates, Public Bodies, OMB and Private Client.

The segment also work closely with Legal Operations to ensure excellent service delivery as well as with the Business Services functions and Marketing department.

The role

We are currently recruiting for a Product Manager to join our  Client Management team. 

Whilst our preferred location is Liverpool we will consider applications from all locations excluding London.

The successful candidate will be working alongside the Commercial Development Director, Marketing Director and Business Change team, lead on the delivering Weightmans Product Strategy. Specifically, and in day-to-day collaboration with legal operations, Innovation, and technical teams, drive effective prioritisation and of the product strategy, resulting in profitable revenue growth.

Objectives

  • Validate, develop, and take ownership of existing product development strategy
  • Analyse and understand through direct interaction or via client partners, client needs, current market trends.
  • With a client needs focus, drive product development factoring competitor offerings, to ensure differentiation
  • Communicate product requirements and develop appropriate programs to ensure they’re successful achieved
  • Lead development, implementation, and delivery of products in association with business change (projects), information Systems and legal operations teams to deliver in timely manner
  • Appraise new product ideas from across the firm and collaborate client partners to create appropriate go to-market plans

Detailed duties and responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritise and manage product strategies to optimise revenue and meet set objectives
  • Work collaboratively with our innovation and technical teams to scope out and analyse legal technology integration opportunities
  • Translate product strategy into detailed requirements for prototype construction and final product development by engineering teams
  • Work across several products and create structure and effective prioritisation against often competing needs from clients and internal teams
  • Develop a continued understanding of our clients, competitor intelligence and market insights to design, price and position future product opportunities
  • Take ownership of all levels of the product lifecycle, from concept, to design, sample production, testing, forecast, cost, production, promotion, support, and finally end of life
  • Ownership of product roadmaps, validation processes and prioritisation
  • Own buy/build partner analysis, and where necessary, review potential partner relationships for products

 

The person specification

Essential skills

  • 3/5 years of product management experience
  • Proven experience in delivery across all elements of the product development lifecycle
  • Demonstrable experience of product/solution development, applying lean practices
  • Experience of assembling, presenting, and delivering against business cases
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to absorb and process large amounts of data into actionable information
  • Comfortable with tracking and reporting on product performance and working with finance to accurately track product investment and profitability
  • Track record of using qualitative and quantitative data to prioritise and drive decision-making
  • Ability to oversee multiple products simultaneously
  • Ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the Firm and with external clients
  • Conscientious, self-motivated, hardworking, responsive, with critical thinking abilities and excellent communication skills
  • Must be a strong writer and public speaker in front of large, senior groups
  • Curious and comfortable holding professional conversations with our target buyers and users
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties

Desirable

  • Pragmatic application of agile development practices such as Scrum, Large Scale Scrum (LeSS), Kanban in addition to waterfall project management methods.
  • Experience of using agile project management systems/tools to capture and disseminate product requirements (e.g. backlog items) via agile project management systems such as Microsoft Boards (Azure DevOps), Jira & Confluence. CA Agile, Trello etc.
  • Knowledge and application of lean product development methodologies including but not limited to the application of lean product development processes including lean business case (Business Model Canvases, Lean Canvas), empiricism-based approach to client centric product development (Jobs-To-Be-Done theory, Value Proposition Canvas etc.)
  • Experience of creating visual product road maps or using product road mapping tools such as Product Plan, Aha!, etc.
  • Professional or regulated services background
  • Strong understanding and/or interest in legal technologies, or alternatively wider workflow automation and machine learning/AI technologies
  • Certified Product Owner or equivalent
  • Good level of knowledge in software and system integration
  • Experience of coaching others
