SENIOR LEGAL & BUSINESS AFFAIRS EXECUTIVE

MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT / TV (NON-SCRIPTED)

Our client is an independent TV production company, specialising in non-scripted content and producing some of the nations best-loved award-winning hit shows as well as factual entertainment and thought-provoking documentaries.

We are looking for an experienced media lawyer to join the Legal and Commercial Department, reporting to the Director of Legal and Commercial Affairs.

This role will cover all aspects of legal and business affairs. The successful candidate will be working closely with production, finance, commercial, digital, post-production and HR departments, ensuring that all relevant contracts and paperwork are processed in a timely fashion, as well as assisting the Director of Legal and Commercial Affairs in dispute resolution, IP protection, rights analysis and commercial exploitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiating and drafting talent and contributor agreements, production agreements, broadcaster agreements (working with Head of Production), distributor agreements, ancillary agreements (including publishing, commercial products and live events) and digital arrangements.
  • Policing IP infringements, registering and maintaining trademarks and domain names and managing and resolving disputes (including instructing counsel where necessary).
  • Working with editorial/ production teams on content compliance issues.
  • Drafting and updating privacy policies and data protection protocols and assisting the Data Protection Officer.
  • Providing basic legal support and advise to HR and liaising with external advisors on employment issues where necessary.
  • Providing support to senior management to inform high level corporate negotiation/ strategy.

You will have excellent experience, specialising in all aspects of media law, in particular contract, copyright and content compliance. Some experience of employment law, data protection, health and safety and dispute resolution would be preferable. With a keen attention to detail and excellent negotiation and drafting skills, you will have the ability to convert legal terminology into clear and precise language and to juggle competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
