The Role
Senior Legal Counsel
The role will be primarily responsible for supporting the Real Estate & Construction areas in one of their key markets as well as the emerging EMEA markets in connection with the acquisition and development of data centres. Given the breadth of the role, they are looking for an individual with a growth mindset to take on new challenges. This role provides an opportunity to develop into a projects lawyer with control over the legal workstreams from site acquisition, development, and utilities until the point the data centre is handed over to the operations team. They have an excellent panel of external counsel to support you.
Job Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate real estate and construction contracts and other related transactions for the business including purchases, sales, leases, licences, FIDIC contracts, consultancy agreements, a range of works and utilities contracts, settlement agreements, and deeds of variation across multiple EMEA jurisdictions.
- Advice and support in relation to the real estate and construction aspects of M&A activity in EMEA, including managing title, lease, construction and environmental diligence and preparation of any real estate assignments and other related transaction documentation.
- Review and interpret contracts and provide legal advice to resolve or handle disputes arising with respect to the existing EMEA real estate and construction portfolio.
- Understand the supply side of the business in order to propose well-reasoned legal and business solutions to complicated problems.
- Build and maintain business relationships, and handle challenging workflows, appropriately prioritizing with partners in Real Estate, Corporate Development & Design & Construction and delivering results within agreed timelines.
- Management of real estate and construction precedent data bases, development of precedents and the provision of training to key business partners.
- Management and coordination with external legal counsel across multiple EMEA jurisdictions engaged to provide legal support for the various activities referred to above.
Qualification & Experience
- 5-8 years PQE as an experienced real estate and/or construction lawyer.
- Experience gained at a reputable law firm is highly desirable.
- Language skills are not essential but French language capabilities are desirable.
