Job Details

New! - a leading Legal 100 firm with a highly-rated commercial team are now seeking an ambitious Senior TMT Associate (5 PQE+) to join their top-tier practice based in Surrey. This is a unique opportunity to work in a highly professional and dynamic group currently consisting of Chambers-rated Associates + Partners, advising and assisting on a wide variety of high quality commercial projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a highly professional team, advising and assisting on a wide variety of high quality, commercial law projects within the insurance sector. The firm promotes agile working policies to facilitate flexible working and are happy to consider both full time working and candidates seeking 4 days per week.

What will you be doing?

You will primarily be advising insurers, brokers, MGAs, MGUs, service providers to the insurance industry and policyholders on transactional commercial and technology law matters as well as on data privacy.

You can expect to carry out work for an impressive array of clients, including well-known insurance brands and new entrants.  The role will involve advising our insurance sector clients on product distribution arrangements, including TOBAs, distribution agreements and affinity/corporate partnerships; appointed representative arrangements; technology and business process outsourcings (including material outsourcings); policy administration agreements; commercial/technology joint ventures; InsurTech arrangements; and online trading matters.  Whilst this is not a regulatory role, an understanding of the financial services regime as it applies to the above commercial arrangements would be an advantage.

Data protection is also a key aspect of the teams work, and experience of its application in the insurance sector would be useful.  The firm is very active in insurance related M&A and you will therefore also provide technical support to the corporate team, particularly in relation to broker asset purchases.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collegiate and highly ranked leading IP, IT and Commercial team of over 20 lawyers. The team’s practice covers a broad spread of commercial, data protection, IT and IP work, including all types of commercial contracts, both B2B and B2C; collaboration agreements; e-commerce documents; IP licences; software contracts; advisory work especially regarding GDPR compliance.

The ideal individual will be comfortable drafting and negotiating contracts; carrying out legal research and due diligence; guiding clients through commercial challenges; and, developing client relationships.

All members of the team advise on IT contracts, as well as dedicating a significant proportion of their time to commercial law advice and data protection/cyber security matters. There is a particular sector focus on tech businesses, insurance/financial services and life sciences.

The successful individual can expect to get involved in a fantastic range of work, with an impressive client list that includes well-known brands, multinationals, FTSE 100 corporates as well as owner managed businesses and entrepreneurs. The team (and the wider firm) has a significant focus on international work and much of what they do has a cross border dimension.

The ideal individual will be a strong team player with solid inter-personal skills, good academics and high quality experience – typically with a major City or leading national/regional practice – who have a commercial approach and excellent technical, communication and negotiation skills.

The range of the work undertaken means the team can accommodate a variety of experiences and aspirations: you might be a technology lawyer looking to continue this type of work, a commercial lawyer who wishes to develop specialist legal or sector expertise, or a specialist regulatory lawyer looking to broaden your practice to a wider variety of sectors or work types.

The firm culture is friendly, collegiate and ranks consistently highly within employee engagement surveys.

An attractive financial package with excellent progression prospects on offer.
