Job Details

Our client is an emerging force within angel investing and early stage venture capital.  Formed by two highly successful entrepreneurs who founded and built highly successful (now public) companies, the business operates as an investment transaction sourcing and execution platform for a syndicate of UHNW individuals seeking alternative and promising ways to deploy venture capital.  With assets now over £100mm along with a small £5mm seed fund, they have made successful investments and tested the investment fund model for future use, which they are now rolling out on a larger scale.

The COO, a multi-talented former accountant who was instrumental in the creation of the business across multiple areas of infrastructure, sales and deal identification, now seeks a General Counsel and Head of Compliance to allow her to focus on other aspects of the COO role and at the same time to allow the business to take greater advantage of pass-through charging for legal advice on deals.  This would entail bringing in a lawyer with strong venture capital experience who would keep work in-house, outsourcing only where necessary and who can advise on transactions from a capital stack, carried interest and technical VC-specific standpoint.

A transactional role in the main, this individual would work on all investment transactions, all exits and any M&A among larger companies in which the firm hold a minority stake.  Huge benefits apply to the role.  First, this individual could work from the business’ offices in Soho, London OR work entirely remotely, travelling for team meetings and activities between once a month and once a quarter.  Secondly, the role is offered part-time, allowing a formalised 2.5 to 3 day week arrangement ideal for a parent seeking to optimise time with young family or someone with a side business they seek to grow.  Thirdly, there is a very clear career path for this individual.  As the business has a group structure which includes other investment sector but non VC businesses, it is wholly possible this individual may, as the business grows, step up to a Group General Counsel position.  Finally, every staff member, from the most junior Analyst to the founders has a voice on which investments to make and how to structure them.  This adds a commercial dynamic to the role which will appeal to those who enjoy the process of venture capital and wish to learn more of the commercial side.  Compensation-wise, they offer a market base salary pro rated for the part-time arrangement, three levels of bonus (cash, investment points and potential carried interest).  The investment points element allows staff to be awarded points to a given value which they can then use to participate directly in investments they like alongside the business, thus being able to put bonus to work and often yielding 20-50x the original points value over time.

An exceptional, dynamic and interesting role which fits alongside your life and allows for excellent work/life balance.
