Plimsoll is a world leading independent natural history studio working with global clients.  It also produces premium popular factual for both the UK and International market.   The Plimsoll group includes its own distribution arm – Magnify Media.   Plimsoll is the third largest independent production company in the UK (not owned by a bigger group) and the largest outside London. 

We are looking for a media lawyer with TV experience to join the team and support the legal and business affairs operations across the group. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for delivering high quality legal and business affairs advice to both senior management, productions and external clients (globally).  You will need relevant experience gained within a media law firm, or a fast-paced media company.  You will have some knowledge of TV development, production and distribution. An understanding of the fast-moving world of digital and television rights would be helpful and it goes without saying that you will have a genuine interest in and passion for this industry.   Salary in line with experience.

Responsibilities include:

• Acting as the day-to-day point of contact for productions and senior management
• Provide a first class legal and business affairs service to internal and external clients
• Negotiate and secure the best deals possible across all areas of the production company to help achieve the creative and commercial objectives of the business
• Communicate effectively with the development, production, finance, post production and distribution teams
• Drafting and advising on option and development agreements
• Drafting and advising on production agreements (contributor / presenter /access / location)
• Advising productions on rights & clearance issues, and compliance and libel matters
• Viewing programmes for legal and regulatory compliance
• Advising on copyright and trademark matters
• Negotiating distribution agreements for the exploitation of ancillary rights
• Advising on broadcaster’s terms of trade and availability of rights

Experience

You are an experienced and qualified production lawyer. You have proven commercial negotiation, drafting and compliance experience and excellent understanding of copyright law and ownership rights

It is essential that you have outstanding attention to detail, the ability to manage a demanding workload and the ability to work to tight deadlines
