This leading national law firm is seeking to build on significant growth in recent years in Manchester with the addition of a Banking & Finance partner for its Manchester office. 

This leading full service practice, has a strong reputation throughout the UK and its success has been augmented by continued growth across a number of practice areas during the pandemic. The firm is particularly focused on continuing to grow its Manchester offering and has spent significant time and resources in mapping out its broader growth strategy over the coming years. Alongside other key commercial areas, Banking is seen a priority area to develop.

In Manchester, it represents a greenfield site with no current, on the ground, capability. That is not to suggest there is not an existing foundation as the firm already has a very successful banking practice within its national framework for which they hold a number of key bank panel appointments alongside servicing a significant borrower led clientele.

As a consequence, there is a platform on which to leverage work alongside the determination on the part of the firm's board to support and nurture growth.

This is a unique opportunity for someone, given the existing infrastructure and the open field for a Partner or experienced lawyer seeking to take the step up to Partner level, to spear head the growth and development of a banking practice in Manchester. They will be supported by a leadership team with a strong vision and solid plan for growth as a whole in Manchester over the medium and long term together with an excellent base on which the successful recruit can build.

It isn't to say that it won't require hard work and a significant investment of time and effort but for the right individual it will be a chance to build a team from the ground up.

As a candidate, what could that look like? Well, certainly there has to be ambition both to create, build and establish a banking practice. To gain that foothold won't just be achieved in leveraging an internal market but rather will come from establishing a presence locally which can be hard to do in the absence of a level of presence already in the market. 

That being said, it does not mean porting over X million by way of following and so it is much an opportunity for someone on the way up vs a well established banking partner with a level of following. The role can be built around the right individual. Inevitably a certain level of experience is required but for now the team are keen to engage in dialogue with those that have the potential attributes for the task at hand.

Of particular interest would be those with experience in the ABL space as well as on the borrower side as these are certainly areas for growth but these are by no means definitive markers.
