Due to the continued growth of this firms IP/TMT practice, they now have a vacancy for a qualified Saudi National lawyer who has ideally covered a range of IP/TMT and commercial matters in their current role. The focus will very much be on a mixed role dealing with a broad transactional and advisory workload. Job requirements The main responsibilities will be: • advising on IP issues under KSA law, covering the full spectrum of rights such as trade marks, copyright, patents, designs and domain names. • drafting, reviewing and negotiating stand-alone IP agreements including IP licences and franchise agreements. • drafting, reviewing and negotiating IP provisions within a wide range of other commercial agreements in the hospitality, education and projects and construction sectors. • supervising team members in dealings with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP). • drafting and reviewing submissions to be made at SAIP and the commercial courts in IP cases, including in trade mark oppositions and appeals. • carrying out research and drafting advice on commercial and TMT legal issues, including agency and distribution, e-commerce, telecoms and media regulation, content distribution, emerging technology regulation (e.g. cloud computing, AI, IOT and blockchain), data protection and cybersecurity. • drafting various commercial and technology agreements, including NDAs, sale and supply of goods/services, distribution, consultancy, advertising, sponsorship, software development and licensing, hardware procurement and data processing. • supporting the commercial/TMT team on larger-scale technology procurement, transformational IT and outsourcing projects. • supporting M&A and corporate transactions and other wider projects with specialist IP/TMT due diligence, research and ancillary contracts; • assisting with the preparation and delivery of proposals, pitches, presentations and legal training materials Candidate requirements The basic requirements for the position are as follows: • a Saudi National; • PQE level of 3 to 5 years' post qualification experience; and • a strong academic background, training and experience gained at a well-recognised firm with an established IP/TMT practice. The ideal candidate will have: • good drafting skills with a keen attention to detail, preferably with experience in negotiating commercial agreements; • experience in carrying out detailed and methodical legal research across multiple jurisdictions using a range of available resources; • confidence and initiative with a keenness to assume responsibility, work independently and take a pro-active and commercial approach to solving issues; • strong inter-personal skills and a genuine interest in marketing and business development; and • genuine interest in developing a career in the Middle East. Description of the team The three-partner IP/TMT group in the Middle East handles the specialist areas of intellectual property and technology/media/telecoms,as well as data protection general commercial matters. The team is primarily located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi but supports all offices across the Middle East & Africa (MEA) region. Essentially, they are a team of commercial lawyers with particular expertise in IP/technology issues advising ona full range of transactional and advisory mandates. The team's work spans the full spectrum of support on IP/TMT issues ranging from regulatory and advisory, to contract drafting and negotiation. They advise on supply chain models, commercial regulations, technology sourcing, media and advertising laws, data protection and the regulation of emerging technologies.
