Overview

As UK / EU Legal Counsel, reporting to the Legal Director, Disputes and Governance and Group Data Protection Officer, your focus will be supporting the Legal function in building a world-class legal and regulatory infrastructure for sustainable business performance into the future. You will assist the Legal Director in providing commercial legal advice to the business units, advising the group on legal risks, providing legal advice and support with regards to all aspects of commercial contracting, assisting with data protection and other governance matters and, in time, preparing for a potential IPO and other corporate events. You will be part of a team that ensures full compliance with regulatory requirements; including all obligations relating to customer and billing data and payment processing services as well as negotiating with core suppliers for services to perform our business activities globally (incl. payment institutions, global software houses etc).

The successful candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter with a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as a member of a team.


Key Responsibilities

The primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities are:

  • Assist in managing all aspects of the legal function.
  • Serve as an integral member of the firms Legal team and liaise between other departments, anticipating their requirements.
  • Provide pragmatic but always legally sound guidance and maintain a culture of excellence to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Maintain relationships with external counsel and other strategic advisors.
  • Provide appropriate legal and contractual support for all business areas including commercial contracting, product development, payments, sales and marketing activities.
  • Take responsibility for substantive legal issues as requested, including commercial, payments, privacy, product, intellectual property, regulatory and if asked corporate secretariat.
  • Work closely with the Legal & Compliance team leaders in monitoring and responding to relevant statutory, regulatory and policy changes.
  • Play an active role as requested in data protection governance activities including building out the group’s data protection/GDPR governance and controls framework.
  • Reinforce culture of compliance with all relevant rules and regulations, including formulation of and compliance with internal policies, rules and procedures.
  • Ensure the proper balance of internal and external legal resources and their effective allocation.


Candidate Requirements

  • Law qualification from a reputable institution; admitted as a solicitor/lawyer ideally in England & Wales.
  • Demonstrable legal negotiation and drafting experience either from within a reputable law firm or similar in-house role.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification legal experience.
  • Strong preference for broad legal experience including corporate, M&A, commercial, data protection, product, intellectual property and compliance.
  • Strong alignment with the firms culture and values and be comfortable in changing corporate environments.
  • Committed to building a world-class legal organisation that supports the firms efforts to achieve its goals.
  • Position located in London.
  • Willingness to travel and work across different time zones.
